IU Eskenazi Museum of Art

Project Description

Eskenazi Museum of Art can be found on the campus of Indiana University Bloomington. Originally built in 1982, this triangular-shaped building with a façade of concrete and glass is a work of art on its own. Strong Tower was contracted by F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company during one of the more recent Museum renovations which included updating the entrances and strategically placed windows.

Oldcastle Building Envelope provided the custom windows in lieu of a traditional curtain wall system. Strong Tower assisted with the design and die approvals specifically for this project. Kawneer 190 and 350 style doors were matched to the custom windows in a dark bronze anodized finish and installed. This scope of work also included a variety of glazing products such as etched, fire-rated, and oversized glass which was provided by Viracon.

Strong Tower fabricated and glazed the custom oversized windows at its Fabrication Facility in Louisville, KY. Coordination and teamwork were key in maneuvering these large windows through the fabrication, shipping, and installation process. The use of specialty lifts with gazing packages were important in installing these large lites of glass flawlessly in a working museum.
