Bardstown Bourbon Company

Bardstown, Kentucky is the second oldest city in Kentucky.  Rich in history and tradition, it is now home to a new company, The Bardstown Bourbon Company.  Keeping in step with the true grit and determination for which Kentuckians are so well known, Bardstown Bourbon decided to try out a new kind of Bourbon business.  Since Bardstown is known as the “Bourbon Capital of the World,” where four of the Bourbon Trail distillaries are located in close proximity – those being Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, Barton 1792 and Maker’s Mark, it may have seemed risky to start a brand new bourbon company.  But the concept behind the 37,000 square foot Bardstown Bourbon Company is not to compete, but to complement.  The concept is working because it hasn’t even officially opened to the public and it is sold out!  Bardstown Bourbon Company began commercial production distilling in September 2016 and is producing whiskey, bourbon and rye for its own brands as well as for its Collaborative Distilling Program partners.

Strong Tower Construction used Kawneer’s Clearwall SSIT Curtainwall System on the elegant glass front of the new building and the 55′ still enclosure.  The Clearwall curtainwall system achieves a sleek, monolithic appearance that eliminates the need for exterior mullions by utilizing a unique toggle assembly that directly captures the glass.  The Bourbon project had several 90 degree outside corners and sloped angles that proved to be challenging.  The front and one side of the building is clad in large limestone panels and rough-sawn cedar planks.  These materials, along with Kanweer’s Clearwall Curtainwall System, give the building a very sophisticated unique look, mixing new building methods with tried and true practices.  It is this talented design which Joseph and Joseph Architects is well known for and which makes the finished property so appealing.
