Thomas More – New Academic Building
Project Description
Strong Tower was contracted by Turner Construction Company to provide the exterior and interior storefront, curtainwall, 47 doors and metal seam panels for this new academic facility on the campus of Thomas More University. This four-story 34,000 square foot facility includes a 375-seat auditorium and laboratory space for technology and prototype education. Through use of large, oversized glass, this new building boasts substantial amounts of natural lighting providing well-lit areas for students minimizing the need for artificial lighting commonly found in academic buildings.
The forty-seven total storefront doors with specified hardware, curtain wall (400SS) and storefront (INT 67) was sourced from Tubelite, Inc. Glass for this project was sourced from Rochester Insulated Glass out of New York. The metal seam panels on the exterior skin were sourced from Innovative Metals Company, Inc. (300 series Mesa).
The fire rated glass with butt glazed joints which overlooks the main entry atrium was manufactured by Technical Glass Products. The sound mitigating framing and sliding glass found at the auditorium sound room were manufactured by Mon-Ray, Inc.
Strong Tower’s fabrication shop built all framing materials for both the exterior and interior and delivered to site for field installation. Specialty hardware for all storefront doors were also installed by Strong Tower technicians prior to shipment to site.
The large, oversized insulated glass units required on the project, were installed through use of cranes and glazing equipment.
