Sing Sing Correctional Facility

Project Description

Sing Sing Correctional Facility is classified as a maximum security correctional facility and is located in Ossining in Westchester County, New York. The facility is for males 16 years of age and older. There is a special housing unit on the campus and Sing Sing offers academic education, as well as many specialty training programs. During peak capacity, there have been 2,300 men housed at Sing Sing. Built by the inmates of the prison system in 1826, from stones cut from a local quarry, Sing Sing is one of the most famous prisons in all of the United States. The concept of inmates spending time in “the yard” originated at Sing Sing, yet ironically, for the first 80 years, Sing Sing was operated with a code of behavior modification known as the “silent system” and inmates were not allowed to talk to each other, much less sing!

Given the age of this campus, there was heavy asbestos abatement required and Koch Corporation’s highly trained asbestos abatement team self-performed all of the required mitigation. Koch also installed new Hopes detention windows, while working under the direction of the State of New York Office of General Services.
